We get so many calls looking for a price over the phone for a painting estimate and this is the absolute worst thing I can hear when I get back to the office. You should never choose any contractor based on price alone ever without meeting them in person.
How do you know who will be working in your home and around your family? When I hire anyone I like to look them in the eye and make my decision that way, price is never the only issue. If the first contractor comes in and I love him or her and I trust them that is who I choose. There is no need for other estimates in my mind if I feel totally comfortable with them. Of course we can always find someone lower and cheaper but guess what? That cheaper price will reflect somewhere, either under or uninsured workers, no taxes being paid or they will cut the quality somewhere either on materials or labor. There is no way around that, do not fool yourself thinking someone just has lower prices. For painting they are all similar, where it changes is what if that worker falls or trips in your home or business? You think they are covered but guess what they are a subcontractor and have no insurance, guess who is responsible? =U Not the company you hired and thought would be doing the work. People lie and cheat all the time, we fight this battle each and every day, many big and small companies in our area use subs, they will not admit to that but it is true. They have nothing to lose and are solely looking for that profit margin.
We are one of the only companies in the area that uses no painting subcontractors ever, all our painters are employees of the company and you can be assured we will not rush through your home and job and if there is ever an issue we will make good on it.
