Removing wallcovering can be a tough situation.

Removing wallpaper can be a tough thing to deal with

Removing wallpaper will make any good painter or homeowner cringe. There is just no way to know how that wall covering was prepared or installed unless it is the same person who put it up.

What can make a difficult job even harder is when the wallcovering installer never applied sizing or primer which helps the wallpaper release when removed much easier.

Here at Amato Painting, we do all of our wallcovering removals on a time and material basis as it is the only fair way to do it, we should not be held responsible for poor work done years ago. We know no one wants to hear that but when you really consider how long it may take it is not fair to lay that on the new painter you just hired. Anyone giving a firm price isn’t really giving you an honest one because they are so many variables in these projects.

When removing wallcovering the professional way, we will cover all the areas and use water and remover, hot water preferred. Score the wallcovering and apply the solution over and over again.

The hope is the front will release along with the backing without hurting the face of the sheetrock too much. If it does we would oil prime the wall and start the spackle process after that is done we would prime the wall again and paint.

As you can see it is an unknown factor on how these projects will go, sometimes we come in and it comes right off and others it takes days and days with frustration and hard work.
